2016 World Car of the Year, the applicants in five categories

Finalists of the International Prize 2016  World Car of the Year were announced on the eve of passing the official ceremony at the New York Auto Show, which is scheduled for March 24th.

Awards will have five categories. Honored with prestigious honors the best cars, cars with the highest power and the most  “green” cars of the year. In addition to the major categories of judges (73 specializing in automotive topics journalist) will allocate a special award for the design of cars.

Top nominees that have shaken the standard representation of the World Car of the Year

This year,  Jaguar Land Rover was able to get the most nominatsiy- six, more than any other company. At least one vehicle from the British automaker competes in each of the categories. Only exception category Green Car of the Year, «Green Car of the Year”, where Land Rover has not got. Jaguar XE and Land Rover Discovery Sport, both finalists in 2016 World Car of the Year, will fight for the first place with such strong rivals as the Audi A4, the BMW X1, Hyundai Tucson, Mercedes-BenzGLC, Toyota Prius,  Skoda Superb and two  Mazda – SH-3 and MC-5.

Jaguar XF is one of five finalists in the category of «Luxury», the new sedan is good, but it is no worse than rivals. Jaguar will face serious competition. Audi Q7, BMW 7 Series,  Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and menacing  Volvo XC90 is also nominated for this category.

As we have said, in 2016 the British got carte blanche. Dynamic SUV Range Rover Sport SVR, with a supercharged V8 was shortlisted for the category Performance Car of the Year, which tend to dominate the Italian brand. The eye catches a complete absence in 2016 Ferrari and Lamborghini. Instead, in the category were newcomers R8 Coupé from Audi, Honda Civic Type R, Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe and the newChevrolet Camaro.

Thus, the intrigue in the category will be serious, to judge who will win in this case is not very easy, as each car is distinguished by its in different areas. However, experts believe that a complete package of performance, usability and accessibility offered by the US market Camaro could make it a winner.

In the category of Green Car on the main place there is a combination of powertrain technologies and engines, electronics and advanced combustion engines. In the category declared: Chevrolet Volt (one of the main contenders for victory), BMW 330e and Volkswagen PassatGTE. All of them represent the impressive tech hybrids, whose balance of performance and efficiency continues to be a very high level. The latest generation Toyota Prius also hit the list. Including the category became the first commercially available car the Japanese automaker working on hydrogen fuel elementah- Toyota Mirai.

Unlike the other categories, will judge the design team of six experts who are professionally engaged in work in the field of automotive design. In the category of five finalists: Cadillac CT6, Mazda CX-3, Mazda MX-5,  Jaguar XF and Land Rover Discovery Sport.

At the Geneva Motor Show on March 1, each of the categories will be reduced to three finalists, and the winner also will be announced European Car of the Year Awards.
