However, it seems that not all automakers have the motivation to improve their products, at least it’s not Ford. Once the American model, according to the Swedish expert, had increased protection against corrosion, now it’s gone: all three models discussed in this year, EcoSport, Focus, S-Max, and also studied in 2017 Fiesta – became holders of a total of two stars.

 

Average, good points, however, made such models as the Audi A8 and A6. Other cars from the VW group also received four stars. On the other hand, only three stars were available for the new VW T-Roc and Skoda Karoq. Mixed feelings cause Frenchmen: five stars for Renault Espace, only three for the Peugeot 308.

Susceptibility to rust modern cars have developed, in accordance with the data of Thomas Vigstrema, mainly in two directions: on the edges of the wings and the doors, and in the lower part of the body. Experimental cars were: Mazda 6 and Volkswagen Golf. The VW model was produced from 2004 to 2008, while the Mazda 6 was in production from 2003 to 2008. Thus, the car is not very old, but they both had a fair amount of rust. To see how the car will survive a crash, the researchers simulated frontal and side impact, by following the standards EuroNCAP.

 

Who wants to be calm for not weakened by rust of the body, should buy Audi, BMW, Renault or older Volvo – this is the conclusion of Swedish experts.

 

Experts in almost 30 years, conducted a test about 500 cars, and filing these cars only expanding. And this important fact proves one alarming trend: the return of rust is a harsh reality.

 

What criteria were tested?

The tests performed in the framework of the research project of the magazine “Vi Bilägare” in the General plan include the following selection criteria: the investigation of cavities with an endoscope, all body panels fully investigated, and the analysis of vulnerabilities, especially hidden internal cavities, which usually starts the development of rust, spars, the presence of drainage systems, chemical processing and materials performance of structural elements.
