Mercedes has updated the E-class: new safety systems and hybrid technologies.

The current Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213 first debuted at the North American international auto show 2016 (NAIAS) – a former Detroit auto show – in 2020, the Germans will introduce the redesigned model. Recently, the German automaker has released some details about the future competitor to the BMW 5-series, which will start to arrive to dealers in late summer. So, Mercedes has revealed the appearance of the restyled cars, as well as information about the new motors.

Although the cars shown in these official photos, still have some camouflage “wrap” is easy to notice some details of the style changes that were made. The E-Class will be available with a choice of option packages, including the Luxury Line, Avantgarde Line, Exclusive Line and AMG Line.

Front of the new facelifted E-class appeared wider and more horizontal grille with different designs of inserts depending on an external package – AMG Line is equipped with a grille with a diamond pin. The specifications have the Avantgarde grille with the two bars (lines), while cars with option package Exclusive and Luxury have three slats in the grille, and only the bar in the middle is trimmed with chrome (the other two trims – black).

The new grille design is required to fit the upgraded headlights, which now have a more angular shape and L-shaped daytime running lights at the top of each group. New led headlamps similar to what you see in the latest models of CLS. Currently, led headlamps are standard on the E class.

Another change is the hood, slightly transformed because of the new headlights.

For vehicles with packages Avantgarde, Exclusive and Luxury redesigned bumper got thinner lower apron, while cars with option package AMG Line acquired, as before, more aggressive sporty style.

Behind the restyled E-class received a new trunk lid and new taillights are now horizontal and thin, which, again, is similar to the Mercedes CLS. The design of the rear apron depends on the selected external equipment of car and may have the element similar to the diffuser, and various “beautiful” exhaust tips.

Inside, the most significant update touched on the infotainment system. Now all restyled cars will go with a media system of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX), which comes standard with two 10.25-inch displays. Depending on configuration, as well as the preferences of the buyer infotainment system can be expanded up to 12.3-inch screens. As in other models with infotainment system MBUX, you get a long list of features including digital assistance, touch input with additional controls on the center console, access online services, and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

In addition to MBUX, there are new steering-wheel design and in the version of the AMG steering wheel is traditionally the most athletic (chetyrehspitsevy steering wheel). Other models instead of the sport steering wheel got a regular wheel. Mercedes-Benz also offers new interior trim and upholstery.

From the point of view of the mechanics of the new E-class is available with seven hybrid powertrains with plug-in modules, which will be supplemented with petrol and diesel options – with the full drive (drive is available as an option with certain engines).

From the point of view of security system Active Distance Assist Distronic will now be able to use the traffic information in real time (information about traffic events obtained through the Internet, or information about traffic jams from the GPS/GLONASS), to accordingly adjust the speed of the car. Also the car received a more advanced system of Active Traffic Jam Assist, which helps drivers stick to the lane and maintain safe distance to other cars at speeds up to 60 km/h. Facelifted Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213 also includes the following systems: Active Steering Assist, Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function, Active Blind Spot Assist warning on exit (works when the car is worth) and the Parking package with 360-degree camera.

Despite the fact that the full technical characteristics of future innovations not yet revealed, Mercedes-Benz has officially announced that the restyled Mercedes E-Class will have two new engine. One of them is a 2-liter four-cylinder engine M254, developing power of 268 HP which will replace the previous engine M274.

Another engine is the M256 volume of 3.0 liters, which will be paired with a mild hybrid system that provides power to 362 HP Recall that the engine M256 is already used in the latest versions of CLS, GL and S-Class, and will also be used in future AMG models E 53. Both petrol engines feature a moderate hybrid technology, powered by 48-volt on-Board network, with an integrated starter-generator, capable of providing additional power of 20 HP

We will have complete information on the facelift E-Class only when it will debut. Planned start of sales in Europe – August 2020. In Russia, the car is expected in September this year. All changes should extend to other versions of E-class, such as wagon, coupe and convertible, but only after the start of sales of the updated sedan.
