Diesel cars produced before 2000 proud in the French capital outlawed
The authorities of Paris announced the use of serious to combat air pollution in the capital. Measures can even be called unprecedented, we are talking about banning older diesel cars on the streets. The ban covers almost all cars that were released before 2000. The law which governs the appearance on the capital’s roads cars with diesel engines, built between 1997 and 2000 came into force on Monday. Measures are not very popular, but the situation with the level of contamination according to the authorities critical and other less radical ways to overcome it are proposed.
Paris has long struggled with air pollution caused by vehicles with internal combustion engines. Previously, the government tried to regulate the number of cars on the road with odd and even license plates on certain days, but this practice was discontinued after it has proven its inefficiency. The new system involves the categorization of all vehicles according to one of the five categories, and required the drivers to appear pasted on your vehicle card with the designated category.
In the fifth level includes all diesel vehicles produced in the period from 1997 to 2000, and the movement of this car on the streets of Paris from now on will be banned. Older diesel engines are also prohibited, but they are not tied to any category.
Thus about 6% of all cars in the French capital will fall under the ban, and their owners will face the choice of what to do, to take public transport, buy a new car or to walk.
Of course, such unpleasant measures a huge number of opponents, the main argument which was a direct infringement of the rights of drivers, especially those who do not have the ability to purchase newer car.
Bad trend is observed in recent years in London there is a “tax on the tube”, in Paris, all banned from entering on pain of a fine, and even in the French capital it is impossible to go from 8:00 to 20:00 on the vintage and older cars and also heavily used motorcycles and scooters with all types of engines. Peremptory suppression of the traffic in Europe continues. And in 2025 three of the world’s capital will introduce a ban on all diesel engines, Athens, Madrid and Mexico city will ban the entry of such automoible on their streets.
