Toyota Australia has announced a 2023 refresh for the Land Cruiser 70 SUV . The model should receive an automatic emergency braking system with pedestrian and cyclist detection . In addition, the famous “seventies” will have an increased mass, which will allow it to move into a new class of cars and remain on the assembly line for many years to come.
Thanks to the increase in gross vehicle weight above 3500 kg, Toyota Land Cruiser 70 will move into the category of medium trucks according to the Australian classification. This will allow the model to bypass the mandatory pole side crash test that all SUVs and light trucks must complete from November 1, 2022.
βThe upcoming changes are designed to ensure that the legendary Land Cruiser 70 continues to be available in the Australian market for the foreseeable future. Combined with a reinforced suspension, the upgrades will enhance the versatility and reputation of this legendary vehicle,β said Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia vice president of sales.
The current version of the Land Cruiser 70 has a gross weight of 3060 to 3400 kg. Due to which the mass of the machine will grow to 3500 kg, has not yet been reported. But it is already known that the SUV will be equipped with the same engine: a 4.5-liter V8 turbodiesel. And this engine will apparently remain under the hood of the LC70 until 2027, when new environmental regulations come into force in Australia.
The Land Cruiser 70 continues to be very popular in Australia for its practicality, reliability and off-road capabilities. In addition, the cost of the car also plays a role. Prices for the model start at about 100 thousand Australian dollars, while the new generation SUV with the β300β index will cost at least one and a half times more.
