Atelier Zagato presented the Mostro Barchetta open coupe with a Maserati engine

Recall that the donor coupe was built on the basis of the racing Maserati 450 S Coupe Zagato, which the same tuners finalized by order of Stirling Moss for the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. And the word “Monstro” in its name is translated in the same way as it is read – “Monster”. So Moss himself nicknamed this car because of its strange appearance.

The word “Barchetta”, which appeared in the name of the new convertible, is translated from Italian as “boat”. So the Italians call an open body without a roof with a shortened windshield, like a boat. The novelty, by the way, does not have a roof at all – even a removable one.

The chassis with a carbon-fiber monocoque, double-lever suspensions on push rods and a steel subframe with a gas tank welded to it, a silencer and a gearbox, went to the “Monsters” from the small-scale sports car Vertigo of the Belgian company Gillet.

Be that as it may, almost half of the body of the open Mostro Barchetta is made from scratch, and under the hood it can be equipped with two engines to choose from: a 420-horsepower atmospheric “eight” 4.2 from the Maserati GranTurismo coupe or a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 unit of the Nettuno family 630 hp from the mid-engined Maserati MC20. Racing transmission – sequential six-speed “mechanics”.

The total circulation of Mostro Barchetta Zagato Powered by Maserati convertibles will be only five copies. Their cost is not specified, but the Italians have already managed to sell one right at the Competition of Elegance near Lake Como.
