Land Rover reveals new Range Rover Sport

The third-generation Range Rover Sport SUV switched to a new platform and turned out to be larger than its predecessor

Land Rover has unveiled the third-generation Range Rover Sport SUV. The British model switched to a completely new platform, received several hybrid versions, and also added in size.

The third Range Rover Sport is based on the modular MLA Flex architecture with a longitudinal combustion engine, which also includes the use of electric units.

The length of the SUV after the change of generation increased by 67 mm (up to 4946 mm), and the size of the wheelbase increased by 74 mm (up to 2997 mm). The volume of the luggage compartment was increased from 780 to 835 liters.

The cabin has a 13.7-inch virtual instrument panel, a head-up display and a 13.1-inch infotainment touch screen. Another screen is installed in the saloon mirror, which can display the image from the rear view camera.

The engine range includes 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesels with 249, 300 and 350 horsepower. The gasoline range is represented by in-line “sixes”, giving out 360 and 400 forces. At the top of the range is a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 from BMW, developing 530 hp. and 750 Nm of torque. In addition, the new Range Rover Sport has two new hybrid modifications for 440 and 510 hp, where petrol “sixes” work in tandem with a 113-horsepower electric motor.

All units work together with an eight-speed “automatic” ZF, plug-in all-wheel drive and a 48-volt starter-alternator, providing additional traction during hard accelerations.

Air suspension with adaptive dampers is standard on the SUV, and active anti-roll bars to suppress body roll, a self-locking rear differential and a fully steerable chassis with slightly turning rear wheels are available at an additional cost.

The Range Rover Sport will be launched at a plant in Solihull, England, and sales of cars will begin in the fall of 2022. In Europe, SUV prices will start at 93,000 euros.
