Toyota has unveiled a redesigned Highlander crossover for the North American market. The main change was the appearance of a new four-cylinder petrol turbo engine, which replaced the atmospheric “six”.

The old 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 unit was replaced with a 2.4-liter “turbo-four” that develops 269 hp. and 418 Nm of torque. Thus, the new engine produces 30 fewer forces than the previous motor, but at the same time, peak thrust has increased by 62 Newton meters. Toyota notes that the turbo unit emits about 50% fewer harmful particles into the atmosphere compared to the old six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine.

In addition, as before, Toyota Highlander will be available in the US with a hybrid powertrain based on a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, paired with two electric units. In sum, all engines are capable of developing up to 246 horsepower.
