The Germans compared the new BMW 4-series (2021) with the previous model
What has changed in the new BMW 4-Series?
The 2021 BMW Coupe 4-Series is no longer a mystery. In Munich, they showed how the new product will look and what can be expected from it, not only in terms of style, but also in terms of technology. Huge “nostrils” of the radiator grille, increased dimensions and new technologies, which we already saw a couple of years ago on the older brother – the reincarnation of the 8-series coupe .
Exterior of the new 2021 BMW 4-Series Coupe
BMW has done it again – the “nostrils” of the huge double grille, which we saw on the BMW 4-Series Coupe concept, took shape. They will go into serial production on the next model and, most likely, over time will become a new distinctive feature for all BMW models. Whether we like it or not.
Yes, the new front end gave the coupe some big changes, even without taking into account the updated headlights , hood, bumper and fenders. But this is not the only difference between the two two-doors – the new and the current generation.
The difference between the regular 3 Series and the sports coupe of the 4 Series is visually greater than it used to be. The two-door car has clearly acquired the premium notes and manners of high-end cars, which passed on to it from its older brother, the BMW 8-Series .
Sleek, refined lines and a wider body made the new Quartet more powerful than its predecessor, even at a glance. Even the headlights are identical to the BMW 8-Series.
What has changed on the new BMW 4-Series?
Firstly , the novelty has become longer than its predecessor by as much as 12.8 centimeters.
Secondly , the bumper has seriously changed – because of the hypertrophied “nostrils”, the lower air intake of the bumper no longer represents a single, solid line, now it is divided into sections.
Thirdly , the radiator grille itself has changed. From now on, the edges in it will not look like classic vertical lines, but will be replaced by rhombuses arranged in a checkerboard pattern;
Fourthly , the fog lights have changed. If on the 2019 model they were standard round, then on the new version of the coupe they became just an elegant LED line.
Fifth , the headlights, as we said, are very similar to those we saw on the BMW 8-Series. The taillights are also identical to those on the two models.
Profile of the silhouette of the updated “Four” from BMW
Comparison of new and current models
Well, and the silhouette. The profile of BMW, as can be seen with the naked eye, is primarily based on the style of an older comrade.
The most obvious references to the 8-ke when looking at the car from the side are the roof contour, the identical window frame, the similar proportions of the hood and trunk.
In general, the side surface looks a little smoother and more serious. With a length of 4,768 mm, the new 4th Series beats its predecessor by a whopping 128 mm ! At the same time, the height has increased by only six millimeters – the coupe in the upper part of the roof is now 1,383 mm . The width is 1,852 mm , which is 27 mm more than the previous result.
We add that the coupe is built on the new modular CLAR platform .
Changes to the rear of the BMW 4-Series
The back is the home of sleek and minimalism. At the same time, it is clear that they have seriously worked with the design – although there are few details on the trunk, the whole composition looks extremely attractive. Probably, and not least, because of the taillights. They are preserved in 3D design and resemble the taillights of the restyled 5-series BMW.
The tailpipes seem to have pushed further outward, now framed by the typical BMW plastic edging. The reflectors on the rear bumper are now positioned lower, just above the multi-faceted exhaust.
In terms of design, little has changed in the interior. It’s still driver-focused and has largely moved on from the BMW 3-Series 3. The digital dashboard will be fitted as standard. The center infotainment screen is located below, the center console has been retracted.
