The number of accidents decreases, but the European average is still very far: accident statistics for the year 2018
From January to December of 2018, according to the counted traffic data, there was 168.099 accident, which is 0.8% less than in the same period of 2017. Reducing accidents on the roads of Russia, though is not significant, but clearly visible – state interventions continue to have a positive effect on the safety of road users.
Also, a decrease in the number of citizens who were injured in these traffic accidents (-0.2%, or 214 thousand people), but killed on the roads of the country for the annual period decreased significantly (-4.6% or 18 thousand people). From this we can draw the interim conclusion that the severity of accidents is also reduced, and a more rapid rate.
However, as represented by police statistics by category of victims in these accidents, the following picture:
Affected drivers (people driving motor vehicles): 76.585 (1,1%)
Cyclists: 5.320 (5,2%)
Passengers: 62.093 (2,3%)
Pedestrians: 50.207 (-5,7%)
Victims are “particularly serious consequences”: 236 (5,8)
As can be seen from the statistics, most categories of road users that were injured increased compared to the same period of play the year before 2017.
Which category is the most violators of traffic among the drivers of the vehicle?
Unfortunately, 2018 showed that the number of accidents and casualties in them because of drivers of the vehicle (due to traffic violations last) increased by 3.3%. While the majority of incidents – more than 119 thousand were committed by drivers of passenger cars, which were in a state of intoxication 12.483 peoplethat, alas, also more than the 2017 1.4%.
Truck was almost 11 thousand accidents. And also a plus, though small – 0.1%. Given that 429 people driving the trucks were in a state of intoxication, the picture is not rosy, because, as you know, the most terrible and destructive accidents occur with the participation of multi-ton vehicles.
An even greater increase shown by statistics from January to December 2018 with the bus drivers. Though the accident is their fault was committed less – 5.8 thousand, but the growth clearly ahead of the other categories, plus 3.7% compared with the 2017 year. While drunken driving passenger buses has been reduced by 18.4% (62 people), but needless to say that the victims in such an accident may be much higher than in any other? The statistics, according to which in these accidents were injured 8.8 thousand people.
Other categories of drivers:
Motorcyclists: 4.5 thousand accidents (plus 5.1%)
Drivers of mopeds and equivalent motor vehicles: 2066 (-2,7%)
Tram drivers: 179 accidents (increase of 34.6%)
Trolley: 321 (-5.3%)
Tractors and other self-propelled machinery: 939 (24.2%)

The number of accidents committed through the fault of foreign citizens
According to statistics, road accidents with drivers – citizens of the CIS countries amounted to quantitatively 4.6 thousand traffic accidents (increase of 8.2%). Drivers – citizens of foreign States became responsible for an accident 5.5 thousand times. There is also an increase compared to the same period last year (4.3%).
Drunk driving in 2018
Of the order of 15 thousand, the accident was triggered by drivers who were intoxicated, which is an increase of 1.3%. With less drivers refuse to undergo a medical examination such traffic counted 3.489, which is 7.5% lower than in 2017.
Road accidents and injuries involving pedestrians (January-December 2018)
The number of injured pedestrians for 2018 in Russia decreased by more than 5%. The pedestrian participants of traffic were in accidents 50 thousand, which is 5.7% lower than in 2017. At fault drivers were made 32 thousand accidents (5.5% yoy), caused by pedestrians – 18 thousand accidents (-9%).
The number of arrivals in the dark decreased by 11.7%, which may be the result of improving the quality of pedestrian crossings. Often they are now highlighted and visible to drivers from afar.
Child injuries on the road
Alas, not decreased as expected. Almost 20 thousand accidents involving minors. Growth of 1.8%.
